IMAGINING THE “POTENTIAL”
“The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn’t think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.”
Steve Ballmer – CEO Microsoft 2000-2014
In this modern age… the potential of our continued evolution and advancements in technology to lead us closer to creating a better world is both great and real. However, it’s always been that way. Since the beginning of time. At one point we couldn’t travel any faster than what our individual bodies could achieve. Yet, the potential to do more and even more important… the desire to realize it… existed, and today, we have vehicles that can travel from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than 3 seconds. This is but one example of thousands that could be sited to assist in proving the point that potential, although it may be a prerequisite to achieving most everything, leads to nothing without the desire or the need to make it happen.
Just 8 years ago the My City Connected project was born out of the desire to create something more; a need to create something better as it would apply to modern day social communications. The goal was to examine from every angle the social networking phenomenon, to seek out ways to harness its capabilities to better serve humanity and to create partnerships designed to create profits, then to convert these profits into opportunities that could be seen and felt both on-line and in the physical world of all participants.
But as with all an idea there comes with it problems that must be challenged and overcome. Solutions that must be found that lead to either eliminating the problems completely or introduce alternative actions designed to avoid them. During development of the My City Connected platform it was discovered that in order to accomplish many of the goals we set out to achieve, as well as eliminate many of the existing problems, we would have to move away from the traditional business models and implement creative innovations to the expected user experience. We discovered that this also meant looking at those who contribute financially not simply as a source of revenue from a client/customer, but as partners with whom we work with on equal ground and for the benefit of all involved.
Imagine a Place…
Imagine a place on-line where you could hang out and socialize with your friends and family while at the same time having access to all the tools you’ll need to make a significantly positive impact on your life socially, economically, and academically. A social hub designed purposefully to distribute and receive information and opportunity unlike none that exist today. A place where one could not only relax and socialize but explore their “potential”.
The My City Connected project was designed to be such a place. A place where social networking takes on a new form. A place were a combination of the best of modern technology is infused with innovative enhancements designed to create a more meaningful networking experience. A place of economic and educational opportunities that EVERYONE can afford.
We started with potential… we recognized a need… we fed it with desire and here we are today.
